A traineeship is a training agreement and contract that allows you to gain practical skills and experience in selected qualifications and industries. A traineeship contract is established between an employer and employee, the training contract is facilitated by an Australian Apprenticeship Connect Provider nominated by the employer and governed by Training Services NSW, Smart and Skilled NSW.
To be enrolled as Trainee, the employee must be employed less than 3 months Full-Time and less than 12 months Part-Time prior to the commencement of the traineeship contract. Please note an employee cannot undertake a traineeship if their employment is on a casual basis at the start date of the traineeship.
Full time trainees work and train an average of 38 hours a week and are not considered a casual employee. This means they have ongoing employment
Part time trainee's minimum workhours can be 15-21 hours per week. However, the minimum hours vary based on what qualification a trainee is undertaking and the typical full-time duration of that course is. The employee and employer will need to seek confirmation from the Australian Apprenticeship Network Provider before signing up.
Australian School-based Apprenticeships and Traineeships allow you to combine your schooling with part-time on-the-job training and formal study to achieve nationally recognised qualification.
If you are Interested in starting a School-based Traineeship, it is essential to speak to your school's relevant teacher, career advisor, or career counsellor as soon as possible to determine the opportunities available and how to access them.

The mode of delivery for traineeship qualifications under Precise Training is employment-based training.
We employ a blended, flexible training approach – including mentoring, work-based training, and self-study learning – that allows learners to gain hands-on experience within typical workplace settings, while still adhering to all necessary resources and regulatory requirements.
Employers play a crucial role by providing a nurturing workplace environment that caters to the learner's needs, including dedicating at least 3 hours per week for formal training, learning and assessment activities. This commitment ensures learners receive the guidance and support needed to thrive.
Absolutely! Credit Transfers can help reduce course fees in accordance with Smart and Skilled rules. However, if the course fee is already $0, Credit Transfers will not further reduce the fee.
Upon enrolment, you will be required to complete a Credit Transfer form (which will be provided to you) and submit a copy of your transcript/Statement of Attainment from the registered training provider where you completed your studies.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) incurs fees based on the units being assessed for recognition. Upon enrolment, you will need to complete an RPL form, after which you will receive an RPL pack to complete.
Support services that are available to learners throughout their course include, but are not limited to:-
• Development of intervention strategies
• One on one support;
• Mentoring; (Mentors are also available at selected Apprenticeship Network
• Providers to support you throughout the duration of your traineeship)
• Tutoring;
• IT support, including digital literacy support;
• Individual Learning Plans;
• Course extensions;
• Reasonable adjustments;
• Application of the principles of assessment and rules of evidence;
• Referral to external specialist teams. You may also contact the Traineeship Coordinator or Student Services Manager should you have any concerns or require assistance.
If you are in a Traineeship and wish to discontinue, please contact Precise Training via phone or email to notify us of your decision. You will be required to complete a cancellation form to formally close your traineeship, which we will then submit to the training authority.
If you wish to defer your studies, you have two options:
1. Cancel your traineeship and re-enroll later – Please note that if you do not re-enroll within a certain period, any completed units may be superseded or updated, meaning you may need to redo them.
2. Submit a suspension form – This allows you to take a set period off (e.g., six months) while keeping your traineeship active. Once the suspension period ends, you can recommence your traineeship and studies.
If you are currently employed and interested in undertaking a traineeship, speak with your employer to discuss further.
When you have reached an agreement with your employer/employee, you may contact any of the Apprenticeship Connect Providers on information regarding incentives, eligibility requirements and to organise the signing of your training contract.
Once your contract has been signed and approved by Training Services NSW, its time to start training.
